Understanding the basics

What is a relationship process group?

Therapist-led Structured support Emotionally safe Real-life tools Community connection

A relationship process group is a therapist-led space where you explore your real-life relational patterns in real time.

Instead of only talking about relationships, you begin to see how you show up in connection — and practice new ways of relating with support and guidance.

"Finally — a safe space to discuss what you have been experiencing."

How This Group Is Different

This is not just a support group — it’s a structured, therapist-led group therapy experience.

This is a process-oriented, therapist-led group — not just a space to talk, but a space to understand your patterns and actively practice new ways of relating.

Each session integrates:
Psychoeducation — grounded in Gottman Method & Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Real-time — relational processing (not just discussion)
Exploration of minority stress and its impact on relationships
A consistent group experience — that builds safety and connection over time

We recognize that LGBTQIA+ relationships often sit at a table with an “extra seat”: systemic oppression. This group helps ensure those external stressors don’t become internal relationship fractures.

4-6
Intentionally small. Every group is capped so each person gets real space — not just a seat.
100%
Therapist-facilitated, every session. Not peer-led. A psychotherapist guides every group.
Weekly
Consistency matters. The same group, same time — so safety and trust can actually build.
Trauma-informed Nervous system aware Mind-Body Real-life integration
What we cover in relationship process group

What we'll explore together.

Structured, but flexible enough to meet you where you are. Over 12 weeks, we move through themes that help you navigate communication and relationship patterns you have been holding.

1
Understanding LGBTQIA+ relationship dynamics How identity, minority stress, and systemic experiences shape connection and conflict.
2
Recognizing relational patterns Identifying cycles like pursuer–withdrawer and understanding your role in them.
3
Communication & connection Learning how to recognize and respond to bids for connection (Gottman).
4
Emotional regulation in relationships Understanding flooding and building tools to stay grounded during conflict.
5
Balancing independence and connection Exploring autonomy vs. closeness and building healthy interdependence.
6
Repair, trust, and emotional intimacy Practicing repair attempts, vulnerability, and deeper connection.

How this group works

What to know before you join.

The structure

This is a closed, therapist-led group — meaning the same participants meet together every week for 12 weeks. That consistency is intentional. It's what allows real safety and trust to develop.

You'll meet with the same small group each week — 4 to 6 people
Sessions are structured and progressive — each one builds on the last
You are never forced to share — but you are gently supported to participate at your own pace
Your facilitator guides every session with clinical intention — you won't be left to figure it out
A typical session

What you can expect each week.

1
Grounding or regulation exercise — we open by settling the nervous system before anything else.
2
Guided discussion or theme — a clinician-led focus that gives the session direction and intention.
3
Space for processing and reflection — room to respond, share, or simply sit with what's coming up.
4
Practical tools for the week — you leave with something concrete you can actually use.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

This is a process group — meaning your real-life relational patterns will show up in the room, and we’ll work with them in real time.

Over the course of the group, you’ll begin to:

Many participants find that this becomes a space where they can exhale, feel understood, and stop carrying it all alone.

Why this work matters

Relationships don’t exist in a vacuum — especially for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

External stressors like stigma, invisibility, or past experiences can quietly shape how we show up with others.

Without support, those patterns can repeat — even when we want something different.

This group creates space to
Slow down.
Understand your patterns
Practice new ways of connecting

So your relationships can feel more secure, intentional, and aligned.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ SECTION

Do I have to share in this relationship process group?

No — you are always in control of what you share and how much. Participation is encouraged and gently supported, but never required.

What happens if I miss a group session?

Life happens. We ask that you let your facilitator know in advance when possible — the group notices when someone is absent, and your facilitator will help you stay connected to the process.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

We do not bill insurance directly for group therapy. However, some clients may be eligible for reimbursement using a superbill. In certain cases, we may be able to support this process by collaborating with your individual therapist. With your written consent (via a signed Release of Information), your individual therapist and the group facilitator may consult to confirm a working diagnosis and ensure the group aligns with your treatment goals. If clinically appropriate, this diagnosis may be used for superbill documentation. This option is not commonly used and is only pursued when it clearly supports your care and treatment plan. We’re happy to talk through your options during a consultation.

How do I know if this group is right for me?

If your relationship or relationship patterns are affecting your emotional well-being, your relationship, or your ability to feel steady in daily life, this group may be a meaningful next step. You do not need to have it all figured out — just a sense that you want more support and practical tools.

Can I join after the group has started?

Because this is a closed group, we don't add new participants once it begins. This protects the safety and continuity of everyone in the room.

How do I get started?

Schedule a consultation. We'll take time to understand where you are and help you determine whether this group is the right fit.

I have more questions — how can I reach you?
