You Might Be Ready for Group Support If…

You don't have to have it all figured out to join a group.

Many people come to group therapy because something isn’t shifting on their own — and they’re ready for support, connection, and a new way forward.

Your thoughts or emotions feel overwhelming

You feel stuck in anxiety, overthinking, or emotional ups and downs — and it’s hard to regulate on your own.

You’re noticing patterns you want to change

The same relationship dynamics, reactions, or struggles keep showing up — even when you try to do things differently.

Individual therapy isn’t enough

You’ve done (or are doing) individual work, but want a space to practice connection, communication, or real-time support.

You're moving through loss

Whether it’s grief, life transitions, identity exploration, or stress — you don’t want to carry it alone anymore.

You’re living with ongoing health challenges

You’re looking for connection, shared experience, and a space where you don’t have to explain everything.

You're ready for deeper, ongoing growth

You want to better understand yourself, your relationships, and how to move through life with more clarity and intention.

What to expect

What It’s Like to Be in a Group

Group therapy can feel unfamiliar at first. Here’s what you can expect — and how we create a space that feels safe, supportive, and genuinely helpful.

Do I have to talk or share in front of everyone?

Not at all. You’re always in choice. You can listen, observe, and take things in at your own pace — and still benefit. We prioritize safety and consent, so nothing is ever forced or expected.

Will it feel awkward at first?

Sometimes, yes — and that’s completely normal. Our facilitators create a grounded, welcoming space from the very beginning. Most people settle in more quickly than they expect.

Is it structured or free-form?

Both. Each session has a clear intention and gentle structure, while still allowing space for what’s naturally unfolding in the group. You’ll feel guided, not controlled.

What if I’m also in individual therapy?

That’s often the best combination. Group therapy adds a relational layer — giving you a place to practice, connect, and integrate what you’re working on individually.

How is this different from a support group?

Our groups are facilitated by licensed therapists using clinically grounded, mind-body approaches. This isn’t just sharing — it’s guided, intentional work that supports real change.

What does it cost?

Pricing varies by group. While we don’t accept insurance, some clients may request a superbill and limited scholarships may be available. We’re happy to walk you through your options during a consultation — no pressure, just clarity.

Why group therapy works

The research is clear.
So is the experience.

Group therapy isn't a compromise — it's often the most powerful form of healing available. When you experience something painful, your nervous system learns it in isolation. Group work helps you relearn safety, attunement, and connection in relationship — which is where most of us got hurt in the first place.

Research consistently shows that group therapy is as effective as individual therapy for many concerns — and for some, it's more effective. The combination of therapeutic support and community can accelerate healing in ways one-on-one work can't replicate.

At Kula, we add a somatic and trauma-informed layer to every group. That means you're not just gaining insight — you're building new nervous system capacity in real time, alongside others who understand.

🧠

You heal in relationship

Most wounds happened in connection with others. Healing often needs to happen there too — safely, with support.

🪞

You see yourself reflected

Witnessing others' patterns and healing illuminates your own in ways individual therapy can't replicate.

🤝

You're not alone in it

The isolation of struggling quietly lifts when you find a room full of people who understand without needing an explanation.

🔄

You practice new patterns

Group is a live laboratory for new ways of relating — immediately transferable to your real life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a Kula individual therapy client to join a group?

No — our groups are open to anyone who meets the fit criteria, whether or not you’re seeing a Kula therapist individually. We do a brief intake conversation with everyone before joining.

Group therapy is offered as a private-pay service. Some clients may be able to use out-of-network benefits (superbills), and limited scholarships may be available.

These are great things to explore together during a consultation.

Most groups run in 8–12 week cycles, with some offering rolling or ongoing enrollment. Your facilitator will walk you through the structure during your intake conversation.

Life happens — and we understand that things come up.

Because group therapy is a shared, relational experience, we ask for a commitment to attend consistently. Payment reserves your spot in the group and applies to all scheduled sessions, whether you’re able to attend or not.

If you do need to miss, we encourage you to communicate in advance when possible. Your facilitator will help you stay connected to the group process.

Yes — all members agree to confidentiality as part of joining. Everything shared in group stays in group. Our facilitators also abide by the same professional standards as individual therapy.

Group therapy is an ongoing therapeutic experience for deeper, sustained support. Workshops are one-time or short-term educational events — no ongoing commitment required. Browse workshops →
