CHILDREN, CAREGIVERS & FAMILY THERAPY • GEORGIA

Support for children, caregivers, and the family system as a whole.

At Kula, we know that healing does not happen in a vacuum. Sometimes a child or teen needs their own therapy space. Sometimes caregivers need support, guidance, and resources. And sometimes the family system itself needs room to slow down, communicate differently, and heal together.

CHILDREN & TEENS

Children and teens need support that matches their development — not just adult therapy in smaller words.

Therapy with children and teens is shaped by age, development, temperament, and the systems around them. Depending on the child, treatment may include emotional-regulation skills, play, creativity, body-based regulation, talk therapy, parent collaboration, and family support when clinically appropriate.

Our goal is not only symptom relief. We also want to help young clients build safety, expression, connection, flexibility, and confidence in themselves and their relationships.

CAREGIVER / PARENT SESSIONS

Sometimes the most helpful session is one that supports the caregiver.

When a child or teen is in treatment, caregiver or parent sessions may be part of the plan. These sessions are generally 25–50 minutes and give your clinician a chance to support the adults caring for the child — not just the child alone.

01

Review the treatment plan

Your clinician may review goals, treatment focus, and how therapy is progressing in ways that support the child while still protecting the child or teen’s clinically appropriate privacy.

02

Provide education and resources

Caregivers may receive guidance, psychoeducation, practical strategies, and resources to better understand what their child or teen is experiencing and how to respond supportively.

03

Strengthen support outside therapy

These sessions can help caregivers reinforce skills at home, improve communication, support regulation, and decide when family sessions or other layers of care may be useful.

MEET KAI + KULA KIDS

Support that grows with children, tweens, and teens.

Kula Kids extends the work in a child-friendly way, with tools and support designed to meet young people at different developmental stages while keeping the warmth and heart of the Kula brand.

FAMILY THERAPY

Sometimes the relationship or family system is the client.

Family therapy focuses on the patterns happening between people — not just on one identified person. It can help families slow down, improve communication, work through conflict, respond to life transitions, and create a more connected, workable way of functioning together.

FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN OR TEENS

Support for the family unit around a child or teen

Family therapy may be helpful when a child’s symptoms, stress, or behavior are closely connected to family communication, routines, attachment, conflict, transitions, or larger patterns happening at home.

CAREGIVERS + PARENTS

Parent sessions and caregiver support

Some family work focuses on the adults: parenting dynamics, co-parenting, regulation, communication, boundaries, routines, and how to better support a child or teen’s treatment and development.

ADULT FAMILY THERAPY

Family therapy is not only for families with minors.

We also work with adult family systems — including parents and adult children, adult siblings, multigenerational families, blended families, estranged families considering repair, and families navigating caregiving, grief, or major life transitions.

HOW FAMILY WORK MAY LOOK

Not every session needs every person in the room.

Depending on the goals, some sessions may include the whole family, some may involve only caregivers, and others may include select family members. The structure is shaped around what will best support the work.

Whole-family sessions

Useful when the goal is improving communication, understanding roles and patterns, or working through shared conflict together.

Caregiver-only sessions

Helpful when adults need support, planning, psychoeducation, and strategy around how to help a child or respond differently at home.

Blended formats

Some families benefit from combining individual, caregiver, and family sessions over time depending on what is clinically indicated.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What people often want to know about children, caregivers, and family therapy.

What is the difference between child therapy and family therapy?
Child therapy focuses on the child or teen as the primary client, though caregivers may be involved when appropriate. Family therapy focuses on the relationships, communication, and patterns happening between family members.
Does Kula offer therapy for children and teens?
Yes. Kula offers developmentally appropriate therapy for children and teens, with support tailored to age, emotional needs, regulation, relationships, and the systems surrounding the child.
What are caregiver or parent sessions?
Caregiver or parent sessions are usually 25–50 minutes and may be included as part of a child or teen’s treatment. These sessions can be used to review treatment goals, provide resources, strengthen support at home, and help caregivers understand how to respond to their child’s needs.
How long are standard child or teen therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions for children and teens are generally 50 minutes. Caregiver or parent support sessions are typically between 25 and 50 minutes depending on the clinical need.
Do parents participate in every child therapy session?
Not necessarily. Parent or caregiver involvement depends on the child’s age, needs, treatment goals, and what is clinically appropriate. Part of treatment may include caregiver collaboration without requiring caregivers to be in every session.
Does Kula offer adult family therapy?
Yes. Family therapy can include all-adult family systems, such as parents and adult children, adult siblings, multigenerational families, or families navigating estrangement, grief, caregiving, or major transitions.
What is Kula Kids?
Kula Kids is Kula Wellness Group’s child-and-family resource space. It includes therapy-related support, child-friendly tools, and educational resources designed to help children and caregivers grow emotional awareness, regulation, and connection.
How do I know whether my family needs child therapy or family therapy?
You do not have to figure that out alone. During the discovery call, we can talk about what is happening, who is affected, and what kind of support makes the most sense as a starting point.
